Myles McGee made a spinning off balance layup in the lane with 2.7 seconds to give the Sequoyah Chiefs a thrilling 49-48 victory over county rival RiverRidge. The game was nip and tuck all evening long as Sequoyah took a 25-23 lead into half. The Knights came back to lead by 3 going into the 4th quarter. The Chiefs were lead by sophomore Jackson Greco with 15 points including 3 from long range. Myles McGee added 12 and 6 rebounds and 4 steals to go with his game winner. The chiefs who were playing their 4th game of the week improve to 10-13 overall and 5-9 in the region. Coach Carden remarked “the kids really gutted this one out. We didn’t play our best. We were a little leg weary but I like the way we competed. We got some good contributions from our role players. Drew Conroy, Jayden and Myron all did some good things today”. The Chiefs have 2 region contest left in the upcoming week. They travel to Osborne on Tuesday and visit Harrison on Friday before heading into the Region Tournament starting on Monday February 5-10 at Riverridge High School. Their likely opposition will be The Harrison Hoyas. The young Chiefs, who only have one senior, have grown up over the course of the season, started the year 1-9 and lost some close games early but have kept working and improving and are gaining confidence going into the last week of the season and Region Tournament. Coach Carden commented “we have really grown up and matured and made great strides as a program. We are starting to turn the corner. The players have bought in and are competing every game. We are still young and hungry and I like the direction we are headed”.
