The Sequoyah Chiefs got a much needed region win at home Saturday afternoon. The Chiefs dismantled the visiting Osborne Cardinals by a score of 88-40. Sequoyah was coming off some hard luck losses during the last 2 weeks that saw them lose to creekview and Sprayberry by 3 points. They dropped a tough 1 point OT loss to Harrison. The Chiefs came out firing vs a Cardinal Team that had won its first game the day before at Riverridge. Sequoyah raced out to a 25-13 first quarter lead. They then ran away from Osborne with a 31 point quarter and a commanding 56-21 lead at the half. Sequoyah cruised in the second half as the reserves took over the rest of the way en route to the 88-40 win. The Chiefs has 5 players in double figures lead by Jackson Greco 23 points. Donovan Shipp knocked in 17 points and 9 assists. DJ King had 12 followed by Arthur Parker with 11 and Myles McGee added 10. 13 players scored for the Chiefs. The win was the first in Region play and improved the Chiefs overall record to 5-12. Coach Carden was pleased with the way his young troops played and quipped “ we really came out focused and intense. I was concerned about that after a long tough week and some tough losses but the guys never let up. They played hard and took it to Osborne from tip to buzzer. We got to keep working. We are getting better every game. I’m very proud of their resilience”. The Chiefs will get back into action on Tuesday as they entertain crosstown rival RiverRidge at the WarLodge. Game time is girls at 6:00 followed by the boys at 7:30.
