Rain has caused the Chiefs Qualifying this week to be limited to only one round to select the six golfers to compete in the varsity tournament at Château Élan this Saturday. Five of the six have varsity experience from prior seasons, but one newcomer to the team is sophomore Geoffrey Moon. Moon tried out for the team last season as a freshman, but did not make the squad. Coach Heath encouraged him to keep practicing, take lessons, and try out again this year. Moon’s efforts paid off as he has not only earned a spot on the team, but he also qualified as the sixth man for the first varsity event of the season, The West Hall Invitational in Braselton.
The five returning qualifying members are captains Hunter Clay and Thomas Brumbeloe, Ryan Wakefield, Joseph Trlica, and Brock O’Connor. The 18 hole tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:30 Saturday.
